Most skin cancers are either basal or squamous cell carcinomas. There are three main types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma; squamous cell carcinoma; melanoma - the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are known as non-melanoma skin cancer or keratinocyte cancers. Keratinocyte cancer is more common in men, with almost double the incidence compared to women. There are certain facts and figures about skin cancer that stand out from other types of cancer. For example, cancer metastasis is uncommon in most types of skin cancer, and it is triggered by sun exposure but sometimes appears in areas not typically exposed, such as the back and the bottom of the feet.
